7 ways to show commercial toilets some love this February

Guilty of neglecting your toilets?

How long is it since you showed your washroom a little care and attention?

As the one place everybody needs to use, taking proper care of commercial toilets makes great business sense – helping to promote and maintain not just high hygiene standards but the reputation of your business.

Is it time to show some love to your bathroom?

The good news is, a little TLC can go a long way. Let’s take a look at some quick and easy wins for your toilet cubicles this February.

1.    Re-paint

Surely there’s no faster way to refresh the look of toilets than to re-paint? Whether it’s a touch-up, a completely new colour scheme or a simple coat of white, repainting will revive the space making it feel clean, fresh, and new.

Not a fan of painting but want to change up the colour scheme? Then have you thought about changing your toilet cubicle panelling? With a vast range of colours available – from wood effects to vibrant shades – you can switch out panels to recreate the look and feel of the space.

2.    Re-grout

Even if you take good care of your commercial washrooms, grout will age.

Used as a sealant, its qualities will degrade over time (which can lead to water damage), it will also discolour and can often develop mould growth on its surface. The end result? Even the cleanest of bathrooms will begin to look unsightly and unhygienic.

There are numerous powerful cleaning products available on the market to tackle this problem. It’s certainly worth investing in one and using it as part of any regular cleaning routine, but if your grout is already past the point of repair, it’s time to start again. Scraping out the old grout and replacing it with new is a pain of a job but the effect is like a mini facelift for the surroundings and well worth the effort.

3.    Change taps

Rusty, stiff or dripping taps are never going to create a good impression.

Corroded fixtures and fittings look unattractive and untidy – they’re also unhygienic, harbouring germs and bacteria.

According to Water UK, a dripping tap can waste 5,500 litres of water a year – that’s enough to fill a paddling pool for every week of the summer! Not only does that have huge environmental implications in terms of wasted water but it has financial consequences too.

The smart money says to replace the taps.

4.    Improve lighting

Something as simple as changing the lighting can cast your commercial washroom in a new, more favourable light.

Replace tired, dated light fittings with a new look and restyle the area. If your toilets are particularly dark and dingy, install additional lighting to brighten things up. Or if more ceiling lighting is likely to prove tricky (or expensive), could you add a lamp to the vanity area instead? This would add brightness and enhance the aesthetics of the space.

Using additional mirrors, pale walls and cubicle colours can also help to reflect light and maximise illumination.

5.    Deep clean

Routine cleaning may follow a strict daily – possibly even hourly – schedule, but how often do you program in a really deep clean?

Set aside time (opt for a period when your toilets won’t be in high demand such as weekends, or out of office hours) and really go to town with your cleaning. We’re talking a full deep clean to really restore the original shine and gloss.

6.    Replace damaged panels

Have toilet cubicles become damaged over time? Are dated toilet cubicle panels dragging the look of the bathroom down?

Then replace them.

Smart new panelling can really revamp the look of commercial toilets. With cost-effective budget toilet cubicles, you could replace the whole lot or simply switch out the damaged panels and replace them with new ones.

Worried they won’t match up? We have a vast range of panel colours and finishes to choose from so you’re sure to find a good match. Worst case scenario and you can’t, then it’s good to know that it works just as well to use a different colour. A finish that complements – or even contrasts – can create a whole new look.

7.    Swap stiff locks

Making sure your toilets are safe, comfortable and easy to use should be a top priority, so it’s worth checking out the locks.

Are any of them stiff or awkward to use – or worse still – don’t work at all? Not only is this unpleasant for the user but it leaves you open to the risk of further potential damage as people yank doors and put undue pressure on the fixtures and fittings.
