Commercial toilet trends for 2023

Are you part of a modern, innovative, and forward-thinking business?

Important then, that your washroom facilities reflect this.

Toilets are too easily neglected and forgotten about – but they shouldn’t be! Your attitude to commercial toilet provision can speak volumes about your business’ mentality and ethos.

If you want to set the bar high – and be confident your toilets send out the right message – then it’s important to stay on top of the latest trends.

With that in mind, here toilet cubicle and hardware experts, M&P Fittings, take a look at the predicted trends for commercial washrooms in 2023, so you can stay ahead of the curve.

Washroom trends for 2023

Colour

Clean, crisp whites will always be a go-to for commercial bathrooms but as businesses look to inject more personality into their settings, increased use of colour and texture is predicted.

Pastel shades and earthy tones look set to hold court but – depending on the nature of your business – it could be worth sticking to shades that are synonymous with your brand.

Fixtures and fittings in stainless steel are timeless and will work well with cubicles and vanity units of any colour. Or for a particularly on-trend look, opt for walnut, oak or teak cubicles as we see the warmer tones of wood making a comeback.

Style

Uber modern, clutter-free designs have been the dominating look of the last few years but as we head into 2023, it’s predicted that a more traditional vibe will make a reappearance.

There are undoubtedly hygiene benefits to smart systems with sensor taps, automatic soap dispensers and hand dryers, but there’s a definite move towards the freedom and individual expression available with more traditional wash station designs.

Our best advice is to merge the two. Stick with white sinks and toilets, and stainless steel fittings but combine with contemporary cubicle colours and textures that express your corporate identity but don’t go too far. This approach will also help to ensure your toilets don’t date too quickly.

Accessibility

Making adequate disabled toilet provisions is essential but in 2023 there’s a building momentum to go even further than this with a growing push for more Changing Places toilets.

Changing Place toilets enable anyone, regardless of their access needs or disability, to visit shops, attend appointments, socialise, and travel by offering facilities that can be used with dignity and hygienically.

Join the campaign and evidence your business’ commitment to accessibility.

Inclusivity

The rise in ‘gender neutral’ toilets has been an ongoing debate in recent years, with many women raising safety concerns and fearing a lack of privacy.

Whilst the government announced this summer that gender neutral toilets would not be the new norm and that all new public buildings should still have separate male and female toilets, there remains a push for open-mindedness and inclusivity – making it important to keep the needs of all toilet users in mind when making changes.

Whatever stance you take with your toilets, be sure to make their location and intender users clear with appropriate toilet door signs.

Layout

Regardless of the fashion, the overall layout of your commercial toilets will likely be dictated by building restrictions and available space. That said, the trend for open-plan design is still a favoured approach for 2023.

The key is not to fall into the trap of shoehorning toilets in – if there’s available space, use it! Not only does more room enhance the usability of your toilets, but it also gives them a more comfortable and luxurious feel – and that never goes out of fashion!
