Small changes BIG difference
Put user comfort first with extra support in place to make safety, independence and personal hygiene the focus of your toilets.
If you offer a designated disabled toilet, it’s important to make it easy to locate for users, which starts with clear signage – take a look at our stainless steel disabled door sign.
Don’t forget too, that it’s not just disabled users that toilet aids benefit. Elderly people and those recovering from surgery, or a recent injury will also find disabled toilets easier to use.
Our hinged grab rails offer excellent leverage for anyone struggling to raise themselves up or down from the toilet seat – a raised toilet seat can also make life much easier for users.
Similarly, you'll find a collection of easy-open door locks, designed to provide users with more independence and confidence using the toilets. These locks are perfect for anyone with limited dexterity, or hand strength, allowing them to easily lock and unlock the door.
Toilet cubicles for disabled users
Standard toilets are not suitable for everyone. One of the easiest ways to increase the accessibility of toilets for people with disabilities is to increase their size.
To be officially classed as wheelchair accessible, toilet cubicles need to be 2220mm in length with a depth of 1500mm. This type of cubicle also requires an outward opening door.
For ambulant cubicles - designed for those with disabilities that don’t specifically require wheelchair space - size requirements are 850mm wide x 1500mm deep. These dimensions are the same as a standard toilet, but an ambulant cubicle must provide a minimum of three grab rails and have an outward opening door.

Toilet aids
Having an appropriately sized cubicle is only the start. It’s important to furnish cubicles and the handwashing area appropriately, to support those with disabilities trying to live independent lives.
If you need to work with toilet frames already in place, you could look to replace the existing toilet seats with a specially adapted disabled toilet seat or fit raised toilet seats, this can improve the ease and comfort of reaching the toilet bowl for those with reduced mobility.
You could also fit grab rails to aid leverage and stability. Easy-to-use locks are also important aids. Not forgetting that fitting grabrails around sink areas can also be an advantage. You’ll find many of these aids within our collection.
